Anyone care to defend Virginia Sen. George Allen ... or James Webb?

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Double Down, Aug 16, 2006.

Crass - nobody is defending Allen's comments.

Why can't you get that through your skull?

What I am pointing out is that DD set up a double standard from the get-go and that he's not the only one who employs a double standard when it comes to politicians making stupid racist comments.

What's the point of all this.

First impression of Allen on the video (I'd never heard of this guy): another frat boy running for office. Whoopee.

Guy may or may not be a racist but he's dumb as a stump.

You and me both. I'm just not hip with this new slang.

I wonder if old tony likes macacas... ???

I understand that Danny Thomas had a thing for glass tables and macacas.

I'm a Southerner too and I'm failing to see where you could have taken much offense here. General anti-Southernness by many on this board? Absolutely. But on this thread, all I've seen is some reasonable shots at a politician who made some really weird, ill-considered remarks.

Turns out that "macaca" is a slur of choice among your finer white-supremacist outfits, too.
Given Felix's well-documented affection for all things Confederate, and given the area of Virginian where he tossed out this little gem, I'd say the case is a little stronger against him than against Biden or HRC.

So the theory now is that we have to denounce everyone implicated in a similar situation before leveling any sort of criticism?

"Now I know Democrats have said dumb, racist things, but here's a case where a Republican said something ..."

Sorry, I don't feel I have to preface every belief, thought or opinion just to satisfy the "but he did it, too" argument.

    I have a dream.

I have a dream that a politician will be someday judged by the content of their words and actions and not based on their party affiliation.

Stupid people will be called stupid no matter what party they hail from.
