    me, too.

i could not survive in severe heat -- or even not-so severe heat -- w/o a.c. eff waiting for a repair person. i'd just buy a new one. it's that important to me.

p.s. -- we have central air on the main level of our expanded ranch. the little shockey have their own bedrooms upstairs -- and a common den-type area -- which had a larger window unit that died on saturday, in the middle of a heat wave. mrs. shockey went out and bought inexpensive little window a.c. units for two of the bedrooms and a fan for the third -- it has no windo for an a.c. -- but the fan and other a.c.'s keep that room and the common area cool as long as the bedroom doors are kept open.

For no other reason that every air conditioning thread needs a sweaty Ashley Judd pic:

Set up fans blowing in on one end of your house/apartment and blowing out on the other. Get a little cross-ventilation going.

you can a personal AC unit at Sam's for about 200 bucks.
They look a lot like the heaters, but have a tube that runs into a window to vent out the hot air.
You could roll it from room to room, as you need it.
This is what one looks like...

How about setting up a lawn chair in the frozen foods section of the supermarket, like the Bundys did?
