Needed: A sports editor to lead a six-person staff covering a two-county Southern California area with nearly 20 high schools, a community college, a minor league baseball team and a new university sports program. There is targeted and wire coverage of national sports teams and auto racing, but the emphasis is local. Outdoor sports including fishing, hunting and offroading are also part of the coverage. Ideal candidate has a minimum two years' success in supervision of community sports coverage plus skill in page design. Will consider moveup from assistant editor position. Compensation based on experience and demonstrated achievement. Send resume, clips and references topersonnel@avpress.com or Antelope Valley Press, P.O. Box 4050, Palmdale, CA 93590-4050.

How many second jobs would you have to work to afford living in Southern California?

A one-bedroom in Antellope Valley probably doesn't cost that much.

This place has more turnstile clicks than the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.
