Time of year you are thinking of going?

Is there a certain climate you want? Desert? Ocean? Seasonal?

The Atlantic Ocean during the offseason can be very nice.

I'd vote for Nashville or Savannah.

I was just in Charleston and Savannah a month ago. I would highly recommend either for a weekend. (Wouldn't recommend doing either at the end of July, like I did. The humidity is insane.)

If you like wine, believe it or not, the area between Austin and Fredericksburg is amazing wine country.

Three pages in, and no one has mentioned Tahoe, because, you know, it's close to everything. EVERYTHING!!!

As a former St. Aug resident, I'll back that suggestion. Charleston is very nice too.

Just got back from Petoskey, Michigan, and really enjoyed it.

Strong New Orleans lean right now. Mrs. Whitman, not one to jump into decisions, ever, wanted a night to sleep on it. She's slightly concerned about ghosts.

I generally try to go to a place I haven't been when thinking about trips.

Two of the prettiest places I've been have been the Oregon coast and Newport R.I.

Besides being a dirty, shit town, it will be meltingly hot in New Orleans for at least the next month.

I'd rather go to where the climate is better.

I enjoyed New Orleans, but it wouldn't be near the top of my list for a relaxing trip. But it's tough to beat the food.
