A friend in the Neighbor Newspapers family says they're following the good leads of CNHI and others who have sat up in board rooms and said "yes, furloughs are the way to go!" I can't fathom what he said about five straight days as a requirement. What will one-person sports departments do, cancel the press that week?

You only cover us when you're on furlough?

Nope, they'll just fire you after the 5 days are up for abandoning your duties.

Since you are the only sports guy, use your week off to set up a blog with all the news. Charge the locals a few bucks to read it. They won't have a sports section to read.
