As do I - some of this is taking way longer than expected.

Is SI hiring these folks as contractors, as ESPN tends to do?

Word I hear is that SI.com hired Staples to cover recruiting and they're not planning on matching ESPN.com's regional coverage.

I've heard this too. I believe it's a nebulous recruiting beat for SI.com

Andy will be covering games as well as recruiting. He's a great guy who's done a very good job with the Trib - glad to see him get the chance to move up.

Incredible dynamic.... the newspaper hiring is in the dumper across the newsroom.

Except in sports with this raid on personnel.

It must frost glass-office sports-is-insignificant assholes like the ones in my shop.

Good for Andy, knew him before he hit Tampa.
Solid guy and a really good reporter.

the reason those glass-office assholes think that way is because reader/advertising surveys tell them so.
Women are the key target for most advertisers because it is women who precipitate most household purchases, especially big ones like furniture and appliances.
I don't think too many would argue that women, generally, don't pore over the sports section.

You work for the NY Times and that overrated media creation Dean Baquet, Simon?

Not some places. One of our folks went to the WWL in the past 12 months and we still get called the toy department to our faces.
