At this point, how can the bleeding be stopped?

From the reader comments: "What the ????, I am gonna go back to bed ,get back up, and restart my computer.
    "I love you guys."

    Well said.

I'm so glad I'm out - had to go a long, long way to get out -- but I weep for those left behind. On an uncomfortably regular basis.

How many staffers will be retained for AnnArbor.com

    I'm so sorry.

This is just terrible. By the end of the year will Southern Michigan have a daily paper left?

If AA is not safe, what town is?

That's the only daily paper in the town, iirc. Right?

Great people there. Had a chance to work there a couple of years ago and came VERY close to accepting. Unlike many places, they seemed to have a plan to deal with the financial times. But I don't think anyone anticipated things getting this bad.

That's just unbelievable... but considering the editor announced his retirement last week, not surprising.

This is jawdropping. They built a new printing plant a couple of years ago.

EDIT: And they've recycled Tony Dearing as the content guy? The consumate corporate lackey

What does this say for Flint, Saginaw, Jackson and Muskegon if Ann Arbor goes...

It's one thing to read that a lot of newspapers are going to close in 2009. It's another to start seeing them fall one at a time.

A friend of mine works at one of those papers. Just got an e-mail from her today telling me about Ann Arbor and she is very worried.

Ann Arbor is one of those cities where you would just expect people to read newspapers. Lots of students, lots of coffee shops, people sitting in parks, taking buses
    , taking classes.

    UGH.
