    1. Kudos to her for being willing to share her story.

    2. How in hell did that story not get out?

    3. Fuck cancer.

So if you're a low- to middle-income woman and need such a procedure, good luck with that.

I have a friend who did this. A week or so later, a blood clot from the surgical site went to her brain.
Many flavors and colors of risk in the world.

Dammit. I had worked up a really good dislike of all things Jolie and now it's ruined.

  8. How unusual is this type of preventive surgery?
I realize you have to take into consideration that cost - for her - is no issue.
If Jill Average did this, would it be covered by insurance, since you are electing to remove a healthy (at least for the time being) part of your body.

I would think if the doctor's recommended it, it would be covered.

Lots of preventative measures are covered.

Why does the test itself for BRCA cost over $3000? Somebody's making a friggin' fortune.

It usually is covered. Sadly, I had a cousin who had the same procedure done shortly after my aunt died of breast cancer.

I think it's great that Jolie went public with this...

If you consider pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity and time, the reality is that aesthetically her breasts will probably look better in the long run. The work they do these days is amazing.
