If McFarlane hires Ricky Gervais as a writer, this could be plenty good.

When is the Academy going to give up and just admit the median audience age for the Oscars is like 63 and its 90 percent women? Trying to get younger men to watch the show is a lost cause. All it does it piss off its membership, which does deserve to be incessantly mocked, but understandably doesn't care for it at its own awards ceremony.

So this means the Oscars will be interrupted every two minutes by some alleged "that reminds of the time when..." so McFarlane can squeeze in lame jokes and skits about lamer pop-culture figures.

That would be awesome. Grenades for everyone.
