tim smith, per the shockey grapevine (always wanted to type that).

that's right. they've been looking for yet another voice since lisa olson departed about a year ago. tim had been their boxing guy and occasional columnist at nfl games.

why the promotion? we hear tim had an offer from yahoo! to become its boxing guy. when the news learned of this, they got him to stay by giving him the general sporst columnist gig, joining lupica, bondy, ziegel and one-sport columnists (madden, harper, myers, lawrence), along with tv specialist raissman.

tim is a terrific guy, although i've never been impressed by him as a columnist. by the same token, it's good to hear of someone getting promoted as opposed to fired these days, i suppose.

thoughts, anyone?

My only thought is that I hope he knows how to use the shift key ...

I send my congratulations to anyone anywhere with gainful employment. And to Ms. Olson for her admirable tenacity. And to the moderators - for their moderation.
