Someone better tell Paulus that you have to kick the ball to make a three-pointer.

The other thing this does is give Marrone a chance to bring the two underclassmen he has on the roster along slowly. They're going to lose a lot of games this year. Might as well lose them with a guy who is only going to be there a year.

Let the local hero create a little buzz around the program (and take a hell of a beating behind that o-line) while the kids get to learn the ropes at practice.

This is a hell of a good idea on a lot of levels.

  3. Potentially the same thing is happening at Boston College where David Shinskie is the front-runner to be the starting QB after playing pro baseball for the last six years. He's a 25-year old freshman. He actually went to a high school I covered at my old gig and he was a better football prospect than a baseball prospect. But he got drafted in the fourth round, got a $300,000 signing bonus, and loved baseball more. It's another neat story.

Except that we've seen that story before with guys like Weinke, Mauck and others. And the difference is the minor leaguers turned QB still have their full four years of elgibility to regain their skills and develop as a football player, whereas Paulus is starting with only one year left on the clock.

IJAG just started firing rocks at the Carrier Dome and knows exactly why.

For those who say that Duke rejected him, the Devils has a more-than-adequate quarterback in Thaddeus Lewis. He's not the problem ... question is will his offensive line give him a chance?

Greg Paulus would have been running for his life in Wallace Wade Stadium, and probably wishing he had continued to get posterized in Cameron by comparison.

He'll put some fannies in the seat, he did win the NYSPHSAA Class AA title in the Dome in 2004.
But what may hurt the Orange is that their lone scholarship kicker just left school.
They have 1 kicker, a walk on.
