I listened to a comedy playlist Spotify put together this morning on our walk. It has some Schumer on her and yeah, that's definitely her schtick.

That list, by the way, has some very good bits

When she starts going into how frumpy and overweight she's treated in L.A. it's also pretty funny.

Greg Fitzsimmons offered a defense of Schumer in his podcast from last week. His point was the premise of the jokes were obvious and used for decades so reaching the same punchline isn't unusual or evidence of stealing. Claimed Patrice O'Neal's joke wasn't original. He did criticize her for being "sloppy" by using jokes based on tired premises in her specials.

He also pointed out that the sketches might not have been created or written by her. His guest Mike Gibbons said he has written on a show that had the same premise for a sketch as one of the Schumer bits. He was pointing out that sometimes an idea gets in your head and don't realize where it came from.

There was some more interesting stuff about what does constitute stealing and some of the prominent claims of joke stealing.

This sounds absolutely terrible, and like a surefire flop:

The Barbie doll, launched in March 1959 from El Segundo, California-based Mattel, is one of the biggest toy brands in the world, bringing in $3 billion annually. But it’s a brand that has had to address issues of self-image and race in modern times.

The feature, with Schumer in the lead, will try to address those in a story that begins in a perfect land of Barbies where one woman slowly awakens to the fact that she doesn’t fit it. She is expelled from the idealistic land and journeys to the real world, where she discovers that being unique is an asset.

The studio is hoping to make an imaginative family comedy with plenty of heart, using the Tom Hanks classics Splash and Big, as well as Disney’s more recent Enchanted, which starred Amy Adams, as touchstones.

Sounds like a great middle-school play.

At this point she's just cashing every check they'll write. In two years, we will wonder what happened to her.

That's a flop no matter who stars in it. Except maybe Nicki Minaj.

Sounds a lot like the plot of Pleasantville.
