Amateur picture of the year?

    No, I didn't miss it. I typed several times that it was a good photo. But, when someone throws out "picture of the year," the standards go up just a bit.

    Are we forgetting that the iconic photo from the Oklahoma City bombing (firefighter carrying away a small-child victim) was shot by an amateur?

    Granted, that's not this year.

    But it takes more than a nice moment for me to get excited about a photograph. Otherwise, I react to what the moment might have been, rather than the photo.

    Point taken. I'd have to see the other candidates, and this is not a spectacular photo, but for a mom/wife just shooting it as a memento, it's pretty good.
