alternator...OUT!

It troubles me that IJAG only drives a 2000 Sentra.

 

Apparently she doesn't. She just waits for it to be fixed.

 

Agreed. Shouldn't she be drivin an Amurican car -- or at least a Toyota?

 

I just looked on the AllData car-repair database, which lists a new alternator for 2000 Nissan's at $260. You can probably find a used one for much cheaper.

 

Maybe even one that works, too!

 

I just IMd a friend who works as a mechanic and he said $250 tops.

I'm sort of surprised she drives ... figured she'd just stay in the house all day with the cats when not on the road. I can really see IJAG as a bus girl.

(Oh, and sounds like it's a dealer. Always, always more and always, always takes 3 times as long as a non-dealer to make repairs or even change the freaking oil/air filter. So that's your extra is the labor. I'd say shop around, but tough to move the car around, what with no alternator and all.)
