Jonathan Gold, a restaurant reviewer for the LA Weekly, a free alternative weekly, was named Monday as the Pulitzer Prize winner for criticism.

    Your thoughts?

I think he went in and asked for a raise this morning, a big raise!

Jonathan Gold's stuff is great, and I say congrats to him, but just wonder this: Isn't it odd that with all the food criticism that has gone on from some very talented and well-known people over the years, he was the first one to win the Pulitzer.

Gold might have separated himself because, in addition to writing fancy-restaurant reviews, he'll go to food stands and stores selling odd wares, eating duck beaks or whatever.

When will the first Pulitzer be given to a writer who blogs exclusively?

It will pretty much have to be Simmons.
