    COLUMBUS, Ohio —
Ohio State has briefly investigated alleged payments by an agent to former Buckeyes football player Santonio Holmes and considers the matter closed.

The university announced on Friday it was closing the books on the matter, which was reported in this week's issue of Sports Illustrated.

In the article, former NFL player agent Josh Luchs said he met with Holmes in November of 2005 after Holmes' junior season at Ohio State. He said they talked about Luchs representing the wide receiver, now with the New York Jets.

Luchs said Holmes told him he was already getting money from an agent, who was also taking care of his family. Holmes has denied the allegation.

Coach Jim Tressel said Thursday that he was troubled by the report but was reassured by Holmes' denial.
