This is why owners are going to go to the mat on the labor deal -- they see the way these guys live, and they know the players will run out of money if they miss two months of paychecks. $9M isn't as good as $12M, but it's a whole lot better than $0M. Same goes for the NFL.

I think his homework consisted of talking to Iverson's money guy and taking everything the guy said as the gospel truth.

That makes a little more sense. You really have to something dumb to get banned. Spilling chips and throwing cards will get you removed from a table, or I suppose removed for a night, but not for good.

Sorta like the last time around. It's absolutely amazing how many athletes live paycheck to paycheck.

The guy with the answer is in Iverson's bathroom, probably above the sink, staring back at him.

Baloney. He is barely even a starting-caliber player any more.

He was voted onto the All-Star team by moron fans who would vote for Jordan if he were still on the ballot.

And he was so concerned about the health of his poor frail daughter he ALMOST decided not to fly to Charlotte, N.C. to attend a nightclub party while he was on "family emergency leave" from the Sixers.

Heard a stat on the radio a couple of weeks ago that something like three quarters of former NBA players go broke within a couple of years of being out of the league.

The only thing I will say about that is this - that story is from April last year, which is almost a year ago. And if this guy's descent is recent -- say in the past six to eight months, perhaps he has since been banned from casinos for, as Inky said, not paying off markers.

I mean, if you think about it - if he was like a lot of these guys he had unlimited credit at these places and maybe, he ran a big bill up and left town.

Now -- all of that being said, I think Stephen A. Smith needed to do a little more than talk to one guy before writing this story because there are some things that are a little bit vague and that's especially considering if anyone should have access to Iverson to get him to talk about things it is Smith.

If he hadn't paid off markers, it would have been in the news already. That's a criminal offense and the casinos have no problem with that news getting out.

I don't think so. If he did, he didn't gamble a lot. I been texting my buddy back and forth, he works the craps pit/ or manages the MGM Grand gaming floor from 8 pm to 4 am five nights a week. He said that he saw Iverson once or twice.

Anyone who gambles at tables knows that anyone throwing around massive wads of cash at table games (losing or winning) draws the attention of casino staff. So I'm calling BS.
