    Will Michael Waltrip ever win a NACAR race again?
    Ever make the Top 5 in a race?
    Top 10?

    Don't know if any of you guys knew Ray Cooper, a former NASCAR reporter who was a manufacturer's rep for Chevrolet and Dodge for the past several years. Ray passed away this morning. He was diagnosed with cancer only about 3 months ago. Great guy who worked hard and helped a lot of people in our business.

    There is a thread here on the board already about this man.
    A huge loss for lots of people, it seems.
    RIP, Mr. Poole Cooper.
    And my condolences to the family.

    { Edited and fixed. My bad }

    Was I wrong for expecting the silliness of the Busch race to carry over to the Cup race?

    I am, however, glad Mr. Poole etc. got a rare home game.

    Ladies and gents *** your 2007 champion.
    Good. He earned it over the first 26 races and this manufactured drama screwed up his big lead.

    And RIP, Ray. One of the good guys. Hell, one of the best guys.

    Modified in hopes NASCAR one day understands to quit trying to fix what wasn't broken.

    Serious question ... has NASCAR begun to question the Chase format?

    The idea was to create interest during the time when football is going on and I don't see that its done that. If anything, I think casual interest is worse than it was pre-Chase. The hardcore fans are going to be there, but the casual fans shrug.

    I'm thinking NASCAR isn't going to change because that would be an admission that this format was idiotic.

    The answer is no. If there was no Chase, the championship would be a complete non-issue right now. Gordon would be cruising and playing defense and likely wouldn't have won the past two races. Half the newspapers who're sending people to cover Chase races would be pocketing that travel money and further convincing themselves that's the right thing to do.
