    I've never done a county or area team for track. For the county, we have a meet. I let that decide things. In the area, it's too sparse to screw with it.

    I treat track, wrestling and all that the same way. If one-on-one can decide it, I'm not doing a team for it. But then again, we have county events for those sports.

    Exactly. You don't even really pick it. They decide it, and if you want to have a team, that's the team.

    FIRST TEAM

    100-meter dash:Centrell Minter, jr., Milwaukee Vincent. Won the Division 1 state meet with a season-best time of 10.68 seconds.

    200:Centrell Minter, jr., Vincent. Won state at 21.90.

    400:Justin Simmons, sr., Milwaukee South: Ran a 48.71 in the Division 1 state meet, taking second place after qualifying for the final in the No. 8 spot.

    800:Erik Sowinski, sr., Waukesha West: Won a tight Division 1 state championship race in 1:54.29, the best time recorded in the state all year.

    1,600: Jack Hackett, sr., Port Washington: Won Division 1 state in 4:16.74.

    3,200: Joe Stilin, sr., Milwaukee King: Won Division 1 state at 9:09.69.

    110 high hurdles: Erik Mersereau, sr., Port Washington: Ran a 14.58 at Division 1 state to take third, after qualifying seventh in 15.01.

    300 intermediate hurdles: Zachary Sharkey-Ketner, sr., Milwaukee Marshall: Won a repeat Division 1 state title with a time of 37.85, the best time in the state all year by 1.15 seconds.

    400 relay: Bradley Tech ran a state-best 41.84 (hand-timed, adjusted) during the regular season.

    800 relay:Milwaukee Vincent’s team of Justin Rogers, Berevon Wyatt, Dominic Blockmon and Centrell Minter set a state record at 1:27.29 in the preliminaries at Division 1 state, then won the championship the next day in 1:27.41.

    1,600 relay: Kettle Moraine’s all-junior crew of Vince Tumbleson, Mike Butterfield, Tom Wenzler and Kyle Winter gave the Lasers the state team championship by winning the final race of the meet over team (and event) runner-up D.C. Everest, in a state-best time of 3:20.54.

    3,200 relay: Port Washington’s team of Colin Zauner, Mark Allen, Evan Ross and Jack Hackett won Division 1 state in 7:50.84.

    Shot put: Jared Hassin, sr., Kettle Moraine: Broke the 60-foot mark (60-1¾) during the regular season and won Division 1 state (59-8¾).

    Discus: Jared Hassin, sr., Kettle Moraine: Threw a state-best 183-4 in regionals, then took third at state (164-2).

    Pole vault: Ben Crogan, sr., Waterford: Cleared 15 feet in a regular-season meet and took third at state (13-6).

    High jump:Marcus Jenkins, sr., Bradley Tech: Cleared 6-8 at the Germantown Invitational during the regular season.

    Long jump: Marcus Jenkins, sr., Bradley Tech: Uncorked the longest jump in state history (25-2¼) at the Hartford Invitational, then won a repeat title at Division 1 state (24-4).

    Triple jump: Trey McKinney-Jones, sr., South Milwaukee: Won a repeat title at Division 1 state (47-11).

    Athlete of the year: Minter.

    Coach of the year: John Lui, Kettle Moraine.
