I always get confused on this.

Jill and Suzy named All-Americas or All-Americans.

Why do you people hate All-Americans?
    Sorry, had to do it.

I occasionally get confused is if I put All-American in the context of being named to the team.
I know it should be named All-American, but saying named to All-American team doesn't look wrong to me for some reason.

    Much obliged.
  8. Maybe it's a weird way to remember it, but keep in mind you don't end with "America." It's either All-American (you have added that 'n') or All-America team, selection, honor, etc.

This is right at the tippy-top of style questions which I believe the reader could not care less.

This is also right at the tippy-top of things which get caught on a page proof while the misspelling in the deck head gets missed.

    All-America, adj.
    All-American, n.

Edit: AP says All-America refers to team, All-American refers to an individual

Unless you're Sports Illustrated, in which every athlete is an All-America. SI's policy drives me up a wall.
