. . . again illustrating the time-tested bromide that one should think before one speaks.

In fact, he's playing touch football with Betty White.

    That was well played too.

Sad that he'll be most remembered for his Reagan comments, when if memory of my history class serves, Bush was out of the country and technically, he was in charge.

Definitely could have chosen better words.

RIP to a fine American who served three presidents.

He was technically in charge until the VP returned. However, he stated at the time that he was third in line according to the Constitution, when in fact he was fifth. Numbers 3 and 4 would have to resign to assume the presidency, leaving Haig for the temporary gig.

You obviously don't know your Presidential succession, however.

Vice president, Speaker of the Houe, President Pro Tem of the Senate, Secretary of State.

So in no way was Haig right.

RIP to an arrogant pompous ass.

Speaker of the House and President Pro Tempore of the Senate both have to resign to assume the presidency.

Mizzou is correct. Haig was in charge, but not exactly for the reasons Haig stated.

I guess heaven needed a third in line behind God and Jesus...

Bush wasn't out of the country, but he was flying back to Washington from Texas.

I used to think that Haig was Deep Throat. No real reason why, except that he seemed to be a major source for "The Final Days".

I sure as heck wouldn't agree with him politically, but RIP anyways.

I always had the same hunch.

Never agreed with him either, but RIP to him. Shame he'll be remembered more for one slip of the tongue than for a long career in public service.
