Fraternities still exist? What a quaint notion.

I'm not picking at anyone. I'm just wondering what the hilarity of it is. A football player gets write-in votes for a student government post that would normally go to a Greek. Hmmm...football players are generally pretty popular on a campus...so I don't see the shock, let alone the humor. Heck, a Mizzou football player was once the student government president.

I guess I'm anti-frat and anti-sorority. Not sure why, though. It's not like I tried and was denied.

I'm gonna show my age but I was in a high school frat back in the mid sixties and when I went to University of Toronto, one of the frats thought I was one of the cool kids so they asked me to join.

I didn't for a couple of reasons: money and quite frankly, I couldn't stand half the guys I met. so I turned them down. I learned what "entitled" meant right then and there.

I joined the Young Socialists instead. Way more fun and the chicks were liberated--if you get my meaning. :)

Now I don't have strong feelings about them except they seem incredibly anachronistic, like white bucks and beehive hairdos.

The Greek system at Alabama is a unique creature. Let's just say that if Florida had that kind of system, not even Tim Tebow could overcome independent voter apathy and the Greek voting block. If you have time, read a few of those stories I linked. It's interesting shit.

I think this happens at every school in the country.
It happened at mine, and we were a small school were athletics weren't close to the things seen down south.

Amazing what can get folks riled up 'round here. Make an innocuous post about missing mild winters and the blades come out.

On the Jones, thing, I also think it's really cool that he accepted the spot. It's nice to see the kid puts some value on having a life outside football. Especially when it's a kid who clearly has a multimillion dollar future in the sport.

    Kudos to Julio.

    P.S.
Native New Yorker here. Greatest city in the world, and if they doubled my salary _ or preferably doubled my wife's because she makes more _ we'd stay here forever. But alas ....
