We found out today that our Alabama beat writer, Tom Murphy, is leaving. This is obviously a hugely important beat for us. Not only is it critical that we make a great hire, but we have to act quickly with football season approaching. Because of the unusual timing (both for us and the candidates) I welcome résumés, clips, questions and comments through email.
    Thanks,
    Randy Kennedy

The Mobile Press-Register, an APSE Top 10 sports section, has an immediate opening for our University of Alabama sports beat. The Press-Register is a 99,000-circulation Newhouse newspaper located on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. The successful candidate will live in Tuscaloosa and must have a passion for breaking news, telling compelling stories and competing on one of the most high-profile college beats in the country. Over the last three years the Press-Register has won APSE awards for its Sunday sections, daily sections, special sections and writing. With football season approaching, there is urgency in the interviewing/hiring process. Candidates should send a résumé and clips to Sports Editor Randy Kennedy, 401 N. Water, St., Mobile AL, 36602; or email résumé and clips to rkennedy@press-register.com

Two big-boy DI football jobs open in less than three weeks. Have fun sifting through those resumes, Randy. :D

  4. He'll take Scott Cain's place at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Hope he's got plenty of email storage. He'll need it.

  6. I know this vacancy was created just hours ago, but ...

For Randy's sake, I hope Murphy has written everything for football tab already.

I can think of a baseball writer in Cincy who wouldn't be a bad fit.
