I don't know if this is an old term that I'm just hearing for the first time, but EDSBS called it "Hothlanta."

    That's pretty good.

The governor of Georgia is getting absolutely grilled at his news conference right now.

Well, the Atlanta mayor sure did throw him under the bus.

The bus was stopped at the side of the road, so it wasn't really a problem.

I guess I'm a sucker for falling for this, but that nickname's been around since at least the '70s.

    Oh, oops. Misread your post.

    You win!

Hothlanta ... nice. Time to hitch up the Taun-Taun.

Seriously, hope everyone is somewhere safe and warm. As others have noted ... midday snowstorms are the worst, because everyone's trying to get home from school/work.

(Or in my case, get to work ...)

    This.

Here in south-central Pennsylvania, the latest trend is two-hour delays if it's going to be cold. If they're going to shiver, they don't have to come in until 10.

There. Quickest old-man rant in history.

And Steak, you and the folks down there have my best wishes.

Ever since that afternoon snowstorm I posted about earlier, the authorities have been much more aggressive about closing schools, delaying school opening or letting kids out early and suggesting, ordering businesses to let employees out of work earlier -- the most extreme example being that prior to last year's blizzard, which began on a Friday afternoon, the Governor ordered all roads closed in the state. This worked very well and oddly enough was very popular, too.
