AJC abandons its roots

    Sorry to threadjack....Our paper will not use "rule of thumb" because of its roots. According to www.phrases.org/uk: "The 'rule of thumb' has been said to derive from the belief that English law allowed a man to beat his wife with a stick so long as it is was no thicker than his thumb."

    Sorry to appear to be a jerk, but I am good friends with someone who was a victim of said "rule of thumb."

    We use phrases like "as a general rule," etc.

    Completely random but look at their front page today at Newseum. Not a single mention of the Hawks playoff game, not even in a teaser.

    That's because Game 1 was on Saturday. Unless you're wanting a refer to a story on tonight's Game 2.
