Against All Odds: Should the Cubs retire Kerry Wood's number?

TV broadcaster Len Kasper said so today on the radio, and the subsequent hosts were having a field day with it the rest of the afternoon.

Seems ridiculous to me, though someone pointed out:

* Success as a starter and a closer.
* Coming back from multiple arm surgeries.
* Second-highest SO/9 in baseball history.
* The whole "New Mr. Cub" factor, i.e. coming back to the franchise, etc., etc.

Still seems ridiculous to me. Maybe the Indians care retire Joe Charboneau next.

Teases, heartbreak, unfulfilled promise ... no one more personifies a franchise.

In my defense, this is in reaction to something someone else, someone in an official capacity with the ballclub, said. This is not me starting some random thread.
