The only thing that could stop Obama winning in 2012 is the war in Afghanistan. He would be wise to pull the plug now and bring everyone home ASAP.

It's looking more and more like Viet Nam II as each day passes.

It's kind of surprising that The Republican candidates ( sans Ron Paul) are not talking more about the war.

Because the Republican (non-Ron Paul) mantra is for more military action, more troops. They vehemently opposed Obama withdrawing the troops he already has.

If Obama pulls out the remaining troops now, the Republicans can justifiably claim that Obama lost the war that Bush started, that Obama is a weak leader and is running from a fight - the fight he said was necessary - with his tail tucked between his legs.

That's how Obama loses on Afghanistan, at least right now.

But that puts Obama in position
    Of putting his re-election over
    Lives

If he just apologizes a few more times, I'm sure the situation will resolve itself.

Or maybe the military can tone down its righteous Christianity BS and start respecting all religions, which would go a long way in not sparking anti-American riots across the Islamic world.

Or, someone needs to remind Karzai who got him into power and unless he wants us to torch the poppy fields on our way out, he better start telling his people to stop acting like idiots over so some burned books that were already desecrated with violent messages.

  8. No matter what your political stripe - Dem, Republican, Independent - this poll should be disturbing

Dear god, don't they know those were *Americans* that died that day? This isn't your ordinary, run-of-the-mill global tragedy. These people were important.

  10. Iraq and Iran fight each other to a bloody standstill for years. America rides into Iraq and destroys their army in days. Like it or not - that's why American lives are different.

It's not like this is a new phenomenon. So, I guess Afghanistan has been coming unglued for years.

As Andrew McCarthy points out, it's okay for Muslims to desecrate the Koran on purpose but no one else dare do it by accident.
