What's that saying about politics sometimes creating strange bedfellows or something......

The ACLU is arguing that Larry Craig had an expectation of privacy in the restroom stall so if he wanted to do the "wide stance" in order to have sex, more power to him.......

  2. Rush Limbaugh enlisted the ACLU to help defend him against doctor-shopping in Florida.
It's what the ACLU does, contrary to its many wingnut opponents.
I wish AP had cited/quoted the "Minnesota Supreme Court decision" to which it efers. That must be some interesting legalizin'.

The ACLU represents everyone, from the Klan to NAMBLA, everyone except a fetus and the individual right to bear arms.
They take an expansive and inclusive view of individual rights except in 2 cases. Why? FUNDING.

  4. The fetus has rights? How about a zygote?
    Survey says, "No."
AS to the other, here's the position, FWIW.

In a polite conversation over some beer I could explain why the ACLU's position on both issues, while legally defensible, are philosophically an anachronistic to all of its other positions. In other words, on abortion and guns, they are intellectually dishonest.

I see so the ACLU is interpretive of the constitution when it suits them and their special interest backers but literal when it doesn't.

Again, they are hypocrites and left-wing frauds.

    Blunt but true.

It's crude, degenerate behavior for people of any sexual preference to commit sex acts in a public bathroom. Is our society at such a low that the ACLU, which should be worrying about bigger constitutional fish to fry than this, is now reduced to defending perverts who can't do their business in the privacy of their homes?

  9. There isn't a bit of intellectual dishonesty regarding abortion. The ACLU supports a woman's right to choose as confirmed by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade, and it supports the right to privacy, established in Griswold v. Connecticut, on which that right is based.. As to other civil liberties issues contingent to the subject, the ACLU has fought for, among other things, the right of anti-choice protestors to march in front of clinics and against expanded "buffer zones." To wit:
    http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2007/05/17/a_move_to_expand_buffers_at_clinics/

As to guns, the ACLU has taken an admittedly nuanced position based on the only available Supreme Court decisions -- there aren't many -- and on the available scholarship and on the Second Amendment's own inherent ambivalence. It supports the right of the state to regulate and register the commerce in firearms, but it has not, as far as I know, ever argued that an individual does not have a right to bear arms.

What about parking garages, airplane washrooms and public parks and beaches?

  11. That's what I once called "fun."

    That could be Hondo's problem.

He's a "no fun" kinda guy.

Except his Muslim routine is pretty funny.
