Exactly, that is why it is prudent for them to play 3 years or so in the A. Drafting a goalie is a long term process.

I've been trying to think of goalies who jumped right from junior to the NHL.

    Fleury.

Carey Price although he did play a full four rounds in the Calder Cup with Hamilton after his junior draft year.

Going back, Barrasso and John Davidson.

    I'm drawing blanks.

Smasher is right about the half speed of the AHL but it's still a helluva faster than junior or NCAA hockey and you're playing mostly against men as opposed to 17 and 18 year olds. Of course, that grooming for a lot of them never pays off and they end up stuck down there, or even worse, demoted to the ECHL.

Barrasso jumped from high school in Massachusetts.

Fleury played about 20 games for Pittsburgh as a rookie, then went back to junior for the playoffs. Then he spent a full season in the AHL (NHL shutdown year) before he went back to Pittsburgh. Even when he came back, he played in just over half of their games the first season.
