Aside from Detroit, the Devils have run their organization better than any other team in the last 20 years. Having said that, Lou is still an asshat.

See Greg Zaun (Jays catcher) try and play net against Cujo and Kypreos. Pretty funny stuff

Saw McCollum play last Sunday against Brampton. Damn good goalie but he's few years away from being NHL ready.

Interesting. By Brodeur's own admission, he really worked out hard for the first time during this past off-season. Have to wonder if that would have anything to do with such an injury.

You could tell from the interview that this season meant a lot to him.

Yea, which is why I don't think the Wings would jump to trade away any of those three goalies.

I'd like some of the brighter hockey lights here explain how the Devils were supposed to develop a first-string goalie when Brodeur plays 60 games a year, year after year.

    I'll wait.

My son suffered exactly the same injury in a football game back in May. He was in rehab for four months-- until almost the end of September--he missed the first three football games in his school's schedule.

Not that it mattered. Worst football record the university has ever had. Hell, even Flash's alma mater beat them. :)

    60 is low.

    Way over 70.

Lou probably figures Marty is good until he's 40--which is four years away. So he probably figures on drafting one say in next year's draft and let him play in the AHL for two or three years. That's where goalies develop--not by sitting on an NHL bench.

A comparable is Toronto. Toskala's a workhouse--probably in for 65-70 games but they picked up Cujo as their back-up while Justin Pogge learns his craft with the Marlies.

You draft one, you groom him in the minors and if Brodeur is still going strong you trade the prospect and get value back.

It might have been wise to draft a potential replacement in one of the last couple of drafts considering Brodeurs age and the fact that goalies take quite a while to develop.

Goalies develop in the minors, not by being backups.

    Goalmouth,

Just because you have a stud in net doesn't mean you can't develop others. What does happen, however, is that they leave as quickly as possible because someone like Brodeur is in the way. Ari Ahonen is a perfect example. He went back to Finland three years ago because he was tired of waiting.

There was a time the San Jose Sharks had Evgeni Nabokov, Miikka Kiprusoff and Vesa Toskala. All three are all-star level goalies. Eventually, two were traded for other assets, because Nabokov was the man.

    It can be done.
