If we find out that Paterno was aware in 1998 and he hushed Sandusky out of coaching then no.

Paterno had the juice to not allow Sandusky anywhere near Penn St Football.

An enormous body of evidence points to the likelihood that JoePa knew just what Sandusky was, for more than a decade.

Some of these kids spent extended periods of time living in Sandusky's home? They went on BOWL trips with Sandusky?

It this isn't a broad, epic case of "cover your asses, everybody, and maybe all the outsiders are too blind/stupid to notice", it's doing a grand impersonation.

Too bad . . . somebody finally noticed.

Get out the Lysol, and take out ALL the trash.

    Stop showing so much indignation.

It's like everyone is in a competition to show the most indignation.

Don't you know there were 106,000 people at a football game Saturday? The healing has begun.

"Don't you know there were 106,000 people at a football game Saturday? The healing has begun."

It seems the best people to decide whether or not the healing has begun would not be the people at the football game, but the people who are victims.

I can see why one might think there's a rush to register indignation, and might react defensively against that.

    But let's be honest:

If you walked in on a rape in progress, and you didn't stop it, and didn't call the police, you're at fault, for what happened to that victim and for those that followed in the next decade. It's nice that you told your father and your boss later. But you failed to stop a rape in progress.

If your employee told you that he walked in on a rape in progress, and you don't call the police yourself, you're at fault. If you don't fire the employee for not callling the police, you're at fault. If you don't even inquire about the name of the victim, and go see the victim's parents, you're at fault. It's nice that you told your boss. But after the boss does nothing, if you don't call the police, you're at fault, for that victim and the ones that follow.

The healing will begin when the rape victims say it begins.

Not to be a dick, but...

The last several posts would be more appropriate on the main thread on the Sports & News board.

Good to hear. His several posts on this topic are uniformly defensive of Paterno.

Just a note: If you're calling newsmakers by nicknames ("JoePa"), that could be a sign of a lack of distance.

A lot of good work has been done on breaking news this year, not the least of which was on bin Laden. It's a tough field.

Local reporting would seem more appropriate.

That seems exceedingly clear to me.

    (No, I don't know anything).

But at that point, Sandusky was the heir apparent, then all of a sudden he retired? Then Joe kept coaching and coaching.

My bet is if the 1998 incident doesn't happen or isn't seen, Sandusky likely becomes the head coach.
