The NFL's had a pretty bad run of PR in recent months, especially with cases like Ray Rice's. Any chance members of the jury were less likely to give Hernandez the benefit of the doubt due to the overall NFL's current stigma/reputation, moreso than say a year or two ago?

    No.
As strange as it may seem, the jury appeared to have really paid attention, and convicted him based on the facts presented.

Almost exactly two years to the day of his conviction, Aaron Hernandez found not guilty of double murder in 2012.

This most recent trial reminded me of that scene in "Tommy Boy," when Tommy reveals he has road flares strapped to his chest, and not a bomb.

"Do you guys want this, or American Gladiators?"
    "Gladiators."

Reason #7,418,971 why twitter is full of morons.
There are people on there that think Aaron Hernandez is coming back to the NFL.
I wish I was making this up.

Why? The Commonwealth's witness was a convicted drug dealer and the defense had a witness who cast doubt on the theory that one of the victims spilled a drink on Hernandez. The police didn't pursue the case until the Lloyd conviction when they had nothing to lose.

That doesn't mean the Commonwealth proved its case. What was the irrefutable proof?
