Only came across McCallum once, at the Athens Olympics. Larry Brown's team was getting killed back home for performance and attitude, so David Stern met with a small group of reporters in an informal scrum before the quarterfinal against Spain.

Don't know McCallum personally, but as a long-time SI subscriber, I recognized him immediately. Normally, I can't stand it when somebody monopolizes a scrum, but he was really funny. Stern obviously liked him, so he was giving great answers, which benefitted all of us. Finally, Stern said, "Jack, I didn't realize this was a one-on-one," and both of them started laughing.

Always liked his stuff, but was really impressed with his attitude.
