Been doing the turkey thing for 25 years and never have had a problem getting one the week before from (name your local major grocery chain here) and putting it in the freezer. There are dozens of way to screw up the bird, in which case it doesn't matter if it's fresh or not.

Don't panic in the last 10 minutes before everything goes on the table. You'll be fine.
