A Red Cross they both bear

    yet using the logo for commercial purposes -- in other words, selling items to make .... (wait for it) .... a profit...

    Stay on track please

    Hate to say this but J&J is 100% correct.
    Red Cross as a charitable organization is not the same as Red Cross marketing products with a logo that is a J&J trademark.

    As a newly minted commercial banker, I can assure you that "non-profit" is a term that refers only to an organization's tax status. National Public Radio, whose financials are on their Web site for anyone's consumption, had revenues of $172MM in 2006 against expenses of $143MM. That's a profit of $29MM, which their accountants refer to as "net change in assets from operations." They are constantly seeking out new revenue streams, just like any other business.

    I'd be more sympathetic if more of the money donated to the Red Cross actually got to where it could do the good for which it was intended . . . but like the United Way, the RC's overhead drag is
    horrific.

    If you don't challenge what you believe is an infringement on your trademark you can lose that designation. J&J is within its right to sue.
