    In a word.
    Krap.
    Krap all over the television.
Mistakenly watched about 45 seconds of First Things First on FOX.
I couldn't think Gottlieb could get any more arrogant and condescending than he was on radio.
    I was dreadfully wrong.
Get Up is exactly what their ratings won't do because that entire show is garbage. Greenberg has been unwatchable/unlistenable for the better part of 20 years. Now you just bring in more people screaming about the same stuff.
    Click.
So, I decide to turn to The Golf Channel. I generally don't mind Damron and Co. But whatever creature from The Black Lagoon they brought into host this program......shes from South Africa and her voice is so high that my dogs get the same look on their face when a plane flies too low overhead.
You can't understand what she's saying.
So, then I flip to ESPN. Have watched SportsCenter for years. Randy Scott and Nicole Briscoe are very very good. Jay Harris and Hannah Storm bring absolutely nothing. I don't care that they have been in the business since Moses was in diapers. Just bad. So then, I flip over this morning to Sports Center and there's two ladies on....Elle Duncan and someone else. Ladies. You don't have to get pillow-fight excited about someone making a 12-foot jump shot to get within 15 points.
So if all of this brain damage wasn't enough......yeh....let's try the news channels...I think the suits at CNN, FOX, and MSNBC all get together once a quarter over martinis and say "CAN WE GET OUR HOSTS AND PANELISTS TO SCREAM MORE????"
That's what we need. More screaming.
I'm turning to the NASA channel in the morning. They have something called Earth Views. Just views of the earth with no screaming. No stupidity. Mellow music. Cool scenery.
    Rant over.

Chef, you need Michael Gee's three ingredients for the perfect balanced breakfast. 1. Black coffee. 2. the sports section (online now of course). 3. Total silence.

    See.
    THIS is what I miss.
Our local paper here in town is essentially useless.
It used to be a very very good paper.
Got taken over by the corpos. I started reading the paper when I was 6 or 7. My mom would always get on me for having black ink on my elbows from reading the paper.
This whole idea of online newspaper is just dreadful to me.
I'm turning into my father and grandfather I know, but still........

I stayed with CBS This Morning after Charlie Rose was fired because of Norah O'Donnell. Since she's moved to the Evening News, I don't watch any morning television. It's the radio.

We watch the local NBC affiliate for the local news at 6:30 a.m. We have to get on the road shortly after 7, but we always see the first few minutes of Today. It’s always “breaking overnight” or some such crap, or if it’s a weather story we hear how “63 million Americans are at risk today” from Al Roker. It’s always predictable and always stupid. Thank God I have better things to do each morning than watch the “news shows.”

Network news programs are essentially the Weather Channel now. Bad weather in December isn't exactly news, but the pictures are good and old people (median age for all those programs is in the 60s) love weather.

For "live reporting"--The Weather Channel is at the top of the heap.

When Boston has a bad snowstorm, the rest stop on Rt. 128 where Weather Channel guys do live standups is like a mile from my house. Always great to see their truck.

    Yes and No.
It's different watching it on TV vs if you see Tornado Chase Vehicles, Weather Channel vehicles and stuff like that coming into your town and setting up camp, something bad is about to happen.

I should've used a sarcasm font. When you see the truck, you know you're going to be part of weather porn for retirees in Florida and Arizona. There was NOTHING my late parents in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. liked better than stories of bad winter weather hitting Boston. When I'd tell them I own a snowblower and big storms are merely a pain in the ass unless the power goes out, they were happy to hear it yet mildly disappointed as well.

NBC Nightly News uses "Breaking News" for every fucking story, even those that are many hours old. It's stupid.

I can just see my future self right now.
Me and the wife chilling at our little duplex at The Villages or somewhere, me on my 3rd bloody mary at 9am getting ready for my 10:30 daily tee time......her wiping down the sex swing from last night's frivolity........all the while getting blizzard amount updates from all my nimrods up here.
    God. Life will be awesome.
