As long as it's not embryonic stem cells, it's all good. And this research indicates it's using the patient's own stem cells. But anything to throw an insult at the moral, right?

Well, the doctors told them about one last option. Some type of stem-cell transplant done at a treatment center in Indianapolis. They left for Indy just before Thanksgiving and made it back just before Christmas. The cells were harvested and his body torched with chemo. And chemo. And more chemo. Just before his white-cell count hit 0.0, they "re-planted" the stem cells.

He went back to Indy yesterday for a check up (and left before the snow hit, apparently).

We got an e-mail today that said Robert is cancer-free, will take oral chemo for a while, and doesn't have another check-up until October.

So. Hell, yes. I support stem-cell research.

As much as we bitch -- rightfully -- about how this country does health care. there are doctors out there who are freaking astronauts, aren't there?
