A "mail it in" bracket column that we can all appreciate

No question these kinds of "let's put cars/candy/movies/foods/etc., etc...... into a bracket like the NCAA Tourney" of columns are trite and reallly an egregious example of mailing it in....

That being said, Jemele Hill's bracket of female R&B singers is somewhat interesting, though she loses all credibility when she not only has Fantasia in the field, she has her seeded No. 7 and she has her winning a game!!!

Hard to argue with the winner, though...

You can't seed the tournament and determine the outcome when you are doing this. It doesn't matter what the subject is.
You have to seed the tournament and have someone else determine the outcome.
If you seed the tournament and determine the outcome, there should be no upsets. Why do you have a 12 beating a 5, a 9 beating an 8 and a5 beating a 4? It doesn't make any sense. If you thought the 12 was better than a 5, you should have seeded the 12 higher. If you thought the 9 was better than a 9, you should have seeded the 9 higher. Etc.

I can't tell if you have a great point or if you are really overthinking this.

    Matchups matter.

You may rank the teams 1-64 but decide that the 40th best would beat the 25th best because of a specific matchup issue.

I haven't even heard of some of these singers.

I e-mailed her for the blatant mistake of leaving Heather Headley off this list. That's unforgivable.
