Also noticed a lot of Pa. schools have "Area" in their name (i.e. Moon Area, Athens Area). Is there something different about "area" schools?

I'd guess most of them aren't limited to just a town and include a lot of the surrounding area.

Which makes total sense in a lot of other states. But in Pa. (and in Jersey, maybe some other places too), you've got all these townships and boroughs. Our school had kids from the town proper, but also two nearby very small towns and two more townships.

So if you were to just say Athens High School, you might think it was just the town.

Yeah. Up in our very rural neck of the woods, our school district includes a town six miles away -- across the county line, in fact. Most of the schools here include "Area" in the name instead of hyphenating the names of every hamlet in their district.

Other way around north of the border, where they have to try to fit names like Cattaraugus-Little Valley on their jerseys.

Illinois guy is only at 84 percent, and he still uses the old helmets ... so he's a complete failure :) I use this guy's stuff for our newspaper.
