    If you accept the premise that his defense makes up for being an inferior hitter on a non-playoff team, which I don't. Neither did the voters last year and I'm guessing they won't agree with you this time, either.

    He's also in the same ballpark as a hitter. Far superior isn't really accurate.

    A vote for Cabrera is fine. The reasoning that he is on a playoff team is a ridiculous justification of ones vote.

    People can disagree with it, but the fact is that the voters for this award have always used "played for a winning team, and preferably a team that won a pennant/division/made playoffs" as one of their criteria for determining the meaning of that purposefully vague word "valuable." It isn't necessarily a deciding factor, but it is always in play.
