You have got to be kidding me.

The hundreds of billions we spend on safeguarding airline passsengers... and you are even halfway condoning this?

Its obscene. And reflects a cavalier attitude about airline safety.

Mom or dad - and his/her boss, should have their ass fired today.

The kid got fired? I thought he had a bright future in aviation.

Did I say I was condoning it? I'm pointing out it isn't as bad as it sounds - kid bringing in airplanes. Kid was repeating what parent told kid to say.
I'm sure controller and supervisor will get fired.

Wasn't the plane the kid was talking to on the ground?

I don't see the big deal on this and it sounded like the pilot knew what was going on. Some of the conversations that take place with ATC while formal, have some joking in them as the pilots and some ATC get to know each other over the years. Certain cities have controllers who have good/bad reps within the pilot community.

On another note there was an article in GQ recently about ATC in New York that was pretty insightful, the gist being the guys like what they are doing but hate who they are doing it for.

Hell, it was an adult voice on there that messed something up and said "Sorry." Kid didn't enunciate well, which would be the biggest concern.

I wonder if the dad will have to go to a Turkish prison.

Reporter: What kind of plane is it?
Johnny: Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.

Steve McCroskey: Johnny, what can you make out of this?
    [Hands him the weather briefing]
Johnny: This? Why, I can make a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl...

The kid shouldn't have been up there. Period. Father should be fired, flogged, put in the stocks, forced to watch three days worth of Obama speeches with his eyes taped open and generally lampooned as a inhuman bastard with no concern for the flying public.

Even if the "Adios Amigos" bit is hilarious.
