    Hoy Newspaper, a Tribune and Los Angeles Times Media Group company, is a Spanish language daily providing the Hispanic perspective from front-page news to entertainment updates. Hoy includes coverage on sports, business, celebrities, travel and more.

    Distributed free to areas throughout the Los Angeles and Orange County areas to the Hispanic community.

    Hoy Newspaper is currently seeking a Sports Reporter for our Editorial team based in Downtown Los Angeles.

    Responsibilities

    The Sports Reporter's principal-duty is to report and write news and feature stories for the Sports section, covering from Mexican soccer to NBA, NFL, MLB or MLS leagues making emphasis on the local teams. He/she must have profound knowledge and all this Sports, being soccer the most important of all.

    The Sports Reporter, managed by the sports Editor, will also edit pages for the section in a timely manner according to our deadlines and will help the editor to work on the section according to our principles and the journalistic style of the paper.

    The Sports Reporter must have flexibility to adapt to our Sunday-through-Thursday schedule and be able to cover Sports events during the weekends when needed.

    Also, he/she will provide an accurate summary and interpretation of events, ideas, trends, news making persons, data, topical research and other news and feature developments. The Sports Reporter must write stories in an original and comprehensible manner that conforms to journalistic techniques, ethical standards and the prescribed format of the newspaper, while providing an accurate summary and interpretation of events, people and phenomena being reported.

    Professional standards for the work of persons in this position include, but are not necessarily restricted to, initiative, creativity, judgment, the ability to handle and complete multiple assignments and projects, the ability to collaborate productively with colleagues, the use of language, the ability to meet the newspaper's writing standards, the ability to translate complicated situations into lucid prose, a sufficient knowledge of the subject being covered, and the ability to expand one's own knowledge and abilities.

    The Sports Reporter will also be responsible for photography elements (camera provided by HOY).

    Requirements

    Experience as a reporter for a Spanish-language daily newspaper.

    Must be fully bilingual and able to communicate and write well in Spanish.

    Knowledge of Southern California Latino community

    PC literate- Windows

    Able to work and thrive in a deadline environment

    The ability to travel locally throughout Southern California to cover stories.

    Valid California driver's license required.

    Candidates selected for an in person interview will be required to share samples of published work.
