I don't think she'd eat anything at the snack bar. She's uber picky!

See IJAG's suggestion on the Idaho kid thread.
Sounds like mom wouldn't think of that and a caring big sister wants his l'il sis to stay safe.

Well it sounds like you're liking the Starbuck's card, which sounds good to me too. After all, you're the only one here who actually knows her and her family.

I'm making her mom sound much worse than she is. She's just very budget concious (sp), and wants to make sure Katie doesn't spend a bunch on stuff she doesn't need.

I want to make sure Katie gets to have some fun with my gift.

I still have the UT shirt I got eons ago. I might dig it out and send it along :D

sc, I would just give her a very nice card, give her a call when she's alone and tell her you need her dorm address as soon as she moves in. Then send the gift card then. It's amazing how much stuff you realize you don't have once you actually move into the dorm. It could be a nice bonding exercise for her and her new roommate to go shopping at Target together. Maybe get a rug or put it toward a fridge or some beer. :D

That and a gift card would be a great gift.

OK, ignore my first (and excellent) suggestion. Here's another good one:
Haul her out to Seattle with us.

Oh, my sister and I were gonna take to NYC later this summer. That got shot down real quick.

I'd go with the gift card from Target.

And then send me her digits. :D

Get her an ATM shirt. Maybe a sweatshirt, but since she'll be in Cowshitville, Texas, she may not need it.

Wait until she moves into the dorm, then send her the gift card(s).

I jokingly suggested my wife give her surprisingly-graduating nephew a bag of weed, but neither of us would know where to get some anymore. She instead will give him money, which will -- presto -- be converted into a bag of weed.
