A Chimpanzee for Sporting News

I'm told Sporting News may put a chimpanzee on the cover of its NFL draft preview issue. The chimp would be plucking names of players out of a hat, kinda Bonzo the GM, I guess. I'm pretty sure that's the worst cover idea I've ever heard, or at least the worst since they put a zebra in sun glasses on the cover, or maybe the worst since they put Ricky Bobby of Talladega Nights in that false cover, or ....

    Anyway...Kindred's gone, Pompei's gone, and Attner's retired.

Meanwhile, they're negotiating with a chimp.

J.G. Taylor Spink must be so proud.

Oh Sporting News, where have ye gone? In my day, the Sporting News was a hell of a read, now it's run by a bunch of trained monkeys.

Heck, they could use the Geico caveman.

At least they may could get a little ad revenue.

Would a picture/illustration of Al Davis gazing into a crystal ball or reading tarot cards be a better option?

Interesting cover. I look forward to receiving this NFL Draft preview in the mail . . .a week after the draft.

And no legitimate journalistic institution would ever use a chimp to attract attention:

Except, um, for the Today show.
