My dad occasionally beat us pretty good. It certainly scared me - I was scared of my parents well into college. I think it probably did more harm than good, though, particularly because it wasn't really something he thought through. It was usually delivered in anger and frustration, probably with his plight more than with me, and the whole place would be up for grabs.

 

Show them your posts and warn them if they don't shape up, this is their future.

I got spanked on occasion as a kid. (Less than my older brothers.)

I don't have a real problem with it (as long as it's not done in anger), but I'm also not sure I could ever envision myself spanking my own daughter.

I meant in school. Hated getting "licks," but not enough to stay out of trouble. I think my mom spanked me a few times when I was a kid, but she was much better at emotional punishments -- as most women are.
