They didn't have any honorary coaches at this thing, did they?

Wasnt it the 10 people who Mal-feasance strongarmed into giving massive amounts of money to the school's 70 million athletic projects?

No. Rather, six sports writers being bandied about on the journalism page.

now, i'm not one to defend alabama, but it all depends on what part of the state you're in. The gulf coast isn't all that bad and the northern part (esp. huntsville, which is a great little city) is different than phenix city, birmingham, montgomery, tuscaloosa, auburn and all that.

There are parts of Birmingham which aren't that bad, either (some parts that are, of course). But feel free to stereotype and throw blanket statements all you want.
The people of Alabama love their football. It's a way for them to express their identity and win at something, because God knows they don't win at much in this world.

They had 75K in Columbus, Ohio. Why aren't you asking the same thing there.
Hell yeah, it's boring here. But if it was the same capacity crowd in Columbus or Ann ARbor or Norman or Austin, would you say the same thing?

Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan have championship-caliber football teams.

    Alabama? Not so much.

Yup... hundreds of thousands of loosers who should have something better to do than watch a meaningless football practice.

Grampy, yours is a valid argument; Willie-Butch's isn't. If you lump ALL spring games that way, it's valid. To say it's This school or That school is bullshit. And while I hate Nick Saban, Alabama's last national title has come after Notre Dame's last one -- so you can avoid the Irish fanboy stuff...
