Idiotic reporting note of the morning:

To the east coast media reporting about this on the morning shows, please explain why you have to keep giving the landfall times in eastern time. No one on the east coast will be affected by this. How about giving the west coast folks the courtesy of telling them what time this will actually affect them.

    Dumb.

Are BBC World and/or CNNI available on DirecTV?

My favorite part was a CNN anchor trying to explain how the waves will come in. Was trying desperately to not say, "they'll come in waves" to describe waves. He kept struggling to find other descriptions.

Shades of Kramer: "it's like a sauna in here."

Japan looks like what happens when you get bored playing Sim City and just start hitting disaster buttons.

CNN is trying to juggle the story in Tokyo, Hawaii and the developing one on the coast, and failing. They used to be able to do this in their sleep. Gotta be able to take baseball scores and type that JV swimming agate at the same time, folks.

Agreed on CNN. Others domestically aren't any better, though.

To be fair, it's not just TV that's doing that. The AP story from Honolulu used EST when referencing when waves might hit the West Coast.

CNN Headline news just transitioned from the quake in Japan to the shocking news about some contestant on "American IdoL." Um, she didn't win. Or something.

We've lived in both California and Hawai'i. Well-educated relatives on the East Coast still asked us, after we'd been there a couple years, "Now, what time is it there?"

The only way you can count on East Coasters to know when something is expected to happen is to give it to them in their time.

Sorry. It made more sense at 9:08 Central.
