It requires some degree of socialization to get your wick wet.
This guy didn't just show these tendencies out of nowhere.

I remember when I was in college someone said, "If you graduate from college and you're a virgin and it isn't by choice (religious, moral reasons...) or strange circumstances (living at home etc...) there is something seriously wrong with you."

There are some exceptions, but I would say this is true more often than not.

If we're psychoanalyzing (beyond the point of "this guy was a nutjob"), I'd wonder if it is the most extreme example of the effect of today's porn. There has been some research on that topic showing that it is harmful in the unrealistic expectations it creates among young men.

I am more concerned that a lot of these guys, going back to Klebold and Harris, come from upper-middle class settings.
This was a rich kid who had to fight for very little in life.
Mommy and Daddy can't get you some ass. You have to go out there and earn it.

Which I'm sure was the point being made by the grieving father of one of the victims in the video linked earlier in the thread.

It's interesting how people talk about race.

I've seen lots of people discuss how these shooters are always white males.

Now, this guy is half Asian, and folks consider him white. Why is that?

I've not heard that discussion and it's also not true. The Va Tech shooter was Asian, the Ft Hood shooter was Arab, the beltway snipers were black, that Huntsville shooting spree was by a woman, etc. These nuts come in all varieties, let's not bring racial BS into it.

I don't say this often, but you're on to something here.

Klebold and Harris weren't rich kids the way this guy was a rich kid. I got the sense from the Columbine book that they were very middle class.

I wondered the same thing. And, at the risk of sounding prudish, I'll say it ain't just porn, but the overall bombardment of sexual imagery and discussion from all angles kids get today. TV, computer, movie, video games, radio, it's all soaked in it.

A kid listens to Howard Stern on the way to school, watches some Two and Half Men episodes to relax when he gets home, flips on the laptop and stumbles on some porn, etc.--just incessantly fed the message that sex is what matters, everyone's getting some, and something must really really be wrong with you if you're not.

If not wealth., then working-class families.
The Batman shooter's dad testified in the Libor probe.
    Peter Lanza is a millionaire.
These guys aren't coming from the underclasses, is the point.

I'm not aligning myself with either side of the argument, but my wife said the same thing to me.
