Who do you write for?

    Not an outing question.
I overheard our news editor giving a new reporter one of her favorite pieces of advice today. She said, when writing, to think of one person and write your stories as if you're writing it for them, so that one specific person can understand it.
So who do you write for? Is it a friend, an editor, your father? A general demographic? Who?
I think I try to write for someone like myself. Somebody with a passing interest in high school sports, follows the college and pro games a little closer, and might have an interest in some of the finer points of the various sports.

    My inner critic.

I'm always trying to write a better story this week than I did last week.

Myself. I use my stringer paycheck to buy groceries.

I write for myself, too. It's one of my few joys in life.

I write for the parents of the third-string J.V cheerleader. They say their kids work just as hard as the varsity, and in the end, who really cared about how the local football powerhouse did?

So should you all, if you know what's good for you.
