He may have been a pedophile and a scum bag -- he still had rights to a fair trial and he still had rights protecting his property and privacy.

Now, before the slobbering starts, let me make this clear --- I am not defending him or his whackos and what they do or did - I am defending our rights as U.S. citizens under the constitution.

Being a bad person is not reason enough for the government to shred the constitution to try and prosecute you then fire bomb your house and kill you.

The thing I never understand, however, is why the same liberals who are always crying a river for the way the way international criminals rights are being violated by our government (torture, waterboarding) have no problem justifying it when one of our own citizens who they deem to be a bad guy gets his rights violated in the name of justice.....

Is being Arab is enough reason? [/from Guantanamo]

    That's exactly my point.

Being a fucking whacko is not reason enough to lose your basic civil rights.

Absolutely not reason enough at all, nor is being black, nor is being a homosexual, nor is being an immigrant, nor is being a Notre Dame fan (though this last one is debatable..... ;D)

But killing federal marshals has been known to have adverse consequences. And Koresh killed his own people.

You are correct. See Ruby Ridge.

Again, a bad use of government power.
But killing cops has been known to have unfortunate consequences.

They do tend to frown upon that.

Do not tell me you believe the "FBI firebombed the Branch Davidians" conspiracy theory. That's just idiotic.

No, but they pretty much bungled the siege.
The crack FBI hostage-crisis team surrounds the place and gets trigger-happy after 51 days? And not one theologian on the ground there to tell them what happens when apocalyptic religious sects get to feeling threatened?
Not to re-hash the whole thing, but the FBI botched the arrest of a lunatic, trigger-happy pedophile who responded by murdering his followers, including children.
    No glory there for anyone.

    Didn't say there was, Fen.

I was talking specifically about the firebombing conspiracy theory.
